The day started off chilly with temps in the mid 30's. Our new 2018 leadership team of President Tim Smith and V.P. Richard Kirby were joined by Joe Keeling, his son-n-law Chris and myself to perform ADR's agreed upon quarterly service work for the Corp of Engineers. Tim won the early bird award by being the first to arrive at 8:30 with the rest of us soon after. It didn't take long for all to be suited up and ready to ride, I mean work. We decided to take a "inspection" lap to spot any trash and trouble areas. After I lost sight of Tim and Richard, -- Joe, Chris and myself continued our trail inspection. Luckily the leaves were so thick there was not one piece of trash visible. What was plentiful was fallen trees. Most had easy go-arounds but there will be some chain saw work ahead. Not to worry, Jim can carry the chain saw wherever we need it. Some of the group had trouble remembering the last race trail (don't make me call you out) and mileage varied, but I got a little over 8 miles for the first lap. Just to be sure we were diligent in our duties, we decided to take another couple of laps. That lead to lunch, another lap and off to explore the Bear Creek trail (blue / yellow trail) that got us about 20 miles in total. We got in over 45 miles and a chance to be outside in the woods on a dirt bike. Merry Christmas to us!
We were a little concerned while eating lunch when we witnessed about 12 side by sides unloading but it never presented a problem for us.
Many of the ADR crew that planned to be there had called in sick and felt a wiser decision was to rest and take care of themselves rather than risk making themselves sicker at the holidays. I hope all are feeling better and can ride soon!!
